The goal of bodywork with SES:

Whether the focus is optimizing performance of an FEI horse, improving recovery of an injured horse, or increasing mobility and comfort for a retired senior. The desired outcome may be different, but the main goal is the same: improving the wellbeing of the horse.

What does “bodywork” encompass with Savage Equine Services?

I am proud of having a multi-modal practice. This means that there are multiple tools and modalities that can be utilized within a bodywork session. While massage is at the forefront of every session, the techniques, pressure, and energy will vary depending on the horse’s needs. I also provide complementary modalities that work well with massage and can help with various things. My aim is to be able to help a horse no matter what the goal is. That’s why I continue to expand my proverbial and literal toolbox in order to benefit client horses. Currently, I offer red light therapy, cupping, kinesiology taping, fascia scraping, stability pads, and tuning forks in addition to massage.

“To get the best out of an athlete, they need to always be feeling good.”

— Tim Worden

Signs your horse needs bodywork:

  • Restricted movement - they’re not moving as big as they could/usually do

  • Signs of discomfort during grooming/tacking up

  • Struggling to perform - knocking rails, slow run times, poor movement scores

  • Difficulty bending in one direction or overall

  • Head tossing/tail swishing during work

  • They have ridden in a trailer for long distances or performed at a competition

  • Their workload or training intensity has increased

Benefits of getting bodywork for your horse:

  • Enhanced recovery

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Improved range of motion

  • Increased proprioception

  • Reduced asymmetry

  • Increased circulation

  • And more!

What tools are incorporated in sessions with SES?

  • Stability Pads

Stability pads are a great way to decompress targeted muscles or work on proprioception and stabilization muscles for the horse. I use these to help balance and align horses after mobilizations.

  • Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a useful tool for healing and reducing inflammation. It’s great for lower legs, the poll, scar tissue, and more. Horses with joint stiffness or high sensitivity in tense areas REALLY love red light therapy!

  • Kinesiology Tape

K tape is helpful in many different situations. It can be used for muscle decompression, joint support, increasing proprioception, and more. K tape is a good for improving range of motion or helping to change patterns of compensation.

  • Tuning Forks

Tuning forks allow me to incorporate vibration therapy into sessions. The forks vibrate at certain frequencies that activate cellular activity, reduce inflammation, encourage circulation, and more! Horses love this tool on the poll, SI, and lower limb joints.

What clients are saying

  • "Over the past two years, Jenn has become an integral part of all our horses' successes. Whether a short stirrup pony or the 3'9" green hunter, she makes sure they feel their best. Jenn also takes the time to discuss how each horse feels to me or how they go with their owners. Our horses have been fitter, sounder, and happier with her as part of our team."

    Kasey Evans, Bridlewood Farm

  • "I love everything about Jenn’s approach to my horse’s body care. He’s an athlete, not ideally built for the job we sometimes ask of him. Jenn has really taken the time to get to know his needs, his job, and his 13 year old rider. She truly wants to know about his life, what’s working, and what’s not. Her suggestions, calm and caring approach, and personal love of the animal, combined with her extensive physiological knowledge make her one of the best I’ve run across in my 35 years of horses."

    Tamara W

  • "We love having Jenn come to Pine Crest Farm! She makes all of our horses feel their best and is so professional to work with. She truly takes her time with each animal, and with each client to teach and show them what they can do to help their horses."

    Kaileigh Keller, Pine Crest Farm
