Equine Massage for Horse Owners

If you want to learn how to help your own horse move and feel better, the Equine Massage for Horse Owners course is for you.

What you’ll learn:

  • Anatomy

Understanding skeletal and muscular anatomy is a vital part of equine massage. It will help you with knowing what areas to avoid, and what strokes to use where. Knowledge of equine anatomy will help you better understand your horse and communicate with their wellness team.

  • Palpation

Palpation is key. It tells you where your horse needs attention and their level of comfort in each area. You’ll learn how to palpate your horse, as well as what common problem areas are pointing to. Knowing how to palpate your horse is an invaluable skill for all horse owners.

  • Massage

Massage is a great way to connect with your horse and help them feel their best. Learning how to massage your horse will also prolong the benefits from sessions with their professional bodyworker, help your horse relax, improve your connection with them, and increase their range of motion.

Bodywork should be a part of your horse’s routine as much as vet and farrier are.

 FAQs

  • No! This is NOT a certification course. This course is for horsepeople who want to learn massage techniques for the horses they love.

  • CAN you? You can do whatever you want. SHOULD you? Absolutely not. Your bodyworker is a professional with probably thousands of hours of experience on top of their education. This course will not put you on their level by any means.

  • This course will walk you through equine anatomy, muscle function, common issues, and assessment. If you are generally familiar with horses (a rider, owner, etc.) you are good to go with this course and won’t be overwhelmed or confused.

  • All you need is your computer, a pen and notebook if that's your jam, and a horse to practice on! There are no additional tools required for this course.

  • While every horse is different, one thing is not - they move, they’re big, they’re accident prone, and they’re either aging or working hard - sometimes both! What it boils down to is this: all horses benefit from massage. It will keep them comfortable, improve range of motion, and encourage relaxation. Who doesn’t need that?
